Each morning after waking up, you likely go over what you need to do for the day. When you are in your shower, you do a run down of what you need to do aside from work. You work, but you also have specific bills to pay. You must walk the dog when you get home, warm up the dinner you prepared on the weekend to feed your family and take care of other odds and ends. However, there is always something else that you neglect to take care of each day. That something else is you don’t talk about how to find joy.

When Do You Ever Think About Finding Joy?

Chances are you are too bogged down with all of your other responsibilities that finding joy is something that does not even cross your mind. But if you can, hold off on thinking for a moment until you answer these questions. How do you feel each day? Are you happy with what happens each day? Or, are you happy with your life? If you flat out say “no,” or you have to think about it for a moment and answer “I don’t know,” then you need to start incorporating times when you can feel happy each day.

Chances are, you know that because you are bogged down with responsibilities, you are not happy. That is why you order books about how to be happy and how to find joy each day. You may read them for a bit, but then they end up on the bookshelf, and you never pick them up again because life distracts you from doing that. No wonder those books on self-improvement and how to find joy each day are known as “shelf-help books.”

However, if you were to make it your goal to find happiness each day, you would be happier regardless of the responsibilities that you have to face. This is because you would know how to find joy each day. As a result, you would spend less time grumbling about work and other responsibilities, sleep better and feel more rested, and being happy has valuable health benefits. That is why you should make finding time for happiness your goal.

Make Finding Joy In Your Days Your Goal

Finding happiness should not feel like a chore. However, it is all about changing your mindset. Perhaps the thing to focus on is how to become more of a half-full glass type of person. If you do your best, struggle with that, and tend to fall towards the half-empty glass type, then genetics can play a role. However, genetics does play a role to a degree. That is why anyone can find joy in their lives if they can focus on that. There are easy methods to find happiness in your life regardless of what happens in your life.

Now, if you are struggling with grief because you lost a loved one recently, then it is understandable that this is not the time to focus on changing your mindset. But, that is why it is essential to allow all of your emotions to process so you can move forward at the right time, which will enable you to find joy in each day. So, let’s talk about the simple things on how to find joy in each day.

Think About The Last Thing That Made You Happy

What was the last thing that made you happy? Was it listening to a song that you like? Was it enjoying some of your favorite ice creams while you were with a friend? Was it doing a particular activity? If you are struggling to recall the last thing that made you happy, then that is a sign that you have not found a way to incorporate joy into your life. If you cannot think of something that brought you joy last time, then you will want to do some exploring. You can go and listen to some music and think of the songs you enjoy. You can go and read a book of a genre that you like and that may bring you joy. Once you find the very thing that makes you happy, you will want to hang onto that.

Prioritize What Makes You Happy

You will want to prioritize what it is that brings you happiness. For example, if listening to a genre of music does bring you joy, ensure that you spend time each day listening to that music. Better yet, if you can keep a small radio by your desk at work and there is no overhead music playing at the office, that will solve the issue right there.

If reading a particular book makes you happy, then ensure you carve out time each day to read that book. Whatever it is, carve out time to do what makes you happy daily. And the more you can do it, it will help change your mindset. Another essential thing you need to do is create a gratitude list each day.

Develop An Attitude Of Gratitude

If you can think of at least three different things each day to express gratitude towards, you will see that your mindset will shift. If you are having a very stressful day, that can be a challenge, and you want to process the emotions that you are having. However, if you have a stressful day but the sun is shining, that is something to express gratitude towards and have the basics in life. Sometimes you may have to go down that route if you are having a very challenging day to maintain a joyful demeanor.

Therefore, the more you can do things that you genuinely enjoy, in addition to developing an attitude of gratitude each day, you will be able to bring more joy to your days. And when you are happier, you are in better mental and physical health, and you reap social benefits too because others will want to be around those who are more optimistic and joyful.
