Humans are social creatures, which is why no one wants to feel alone because you end up experiencing negative emotions such as sadness, despair, and, most of all, loneliness. The truth is that everyone goes through periods where they experience these feelings because you feel that way when you endure a crisis and when amid adverse world events, you can feel that way too. And there are times when you may think that life is too difficult to handle. And you may even feel that way when you speak with friends, as nothing can shake off that lonely feeling.
It is tempting to hibernate and stay away from anyone as you want to isolate yourself. However, doing that will keep you at a low vibration, which means you will keep attracting negativity to your life. So let’s talk about how you can stop feeling alone in the world despite what is happening in your life.
How To No Longer Feel Alone In The World
Even if you happen to be in a crowded area, such as a supermarket, a class, or a gym, you may feel even lonelier. You may believe those around you are happy and have loved ones and friends fulfilling them. However, there is a good chance that many of them feel the way you do, and you would not know it.
When you are dealing with a crisis or a burden of responsibilities such as caregiving, you may feel lonely because you may believe that others may not understand what you are going through. Then there is that added fear of thinking that no one likes you and that they do not take you seriously.
Perhaps when you are feeling alone in the world, you may believe that others will reject you. Therefore, loneliness and low self-esteem go hand in hand. When you are feeling that way, you will want to journal to see if you can pinpoint why you feel that others will reject you. And you may need some therapy as well to help you navigate this process. However, when you are lonely, there is another thing you may find yourself doing that can keep making you feel lonely. That is by comparing yourself to others.
Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy
The term may sound cliche, but it is true. When you are lonely, you will unconsciously compare yourself to others. Just like those you see in a crowded room appear so happy and bubbly while you don’t, there is no need even to attempt to compare them to you because you do not know their situation. They may appear happy outside, but you do not see what happens in their private lives.
At the same time, when you are feeling sad and lonely, you may find yourself scrolling through social media, and all you see are happy people, fulfilled with all the things you would love to have. For example, if you have to be a caregiver to an aging parent, which makes you feel lonely, you will see your friends on social media sharing pictures of themselves on a European trip. You will compare your burdensome life to their freedom, and you will be jealous and, at the same time, sad, which emphasizes the loneliness you feel as a result.
Another example is that you may feel isolated and lonely if you have one child that has a developmental disability. You see other kids the same age as your child doing the things you envisioned your child would do. That would also make you feel the same as seeing your friends taking a European vacation while stuck with a caregiving job.
The best thing you can do to stop comparing yourself to others is to understand that others have different challenges than you, and they are also enjoying their time to shine right now. One day, the tables will turn. You will experience freedom and joy, and they will have situations that will tie them down. However, once again, you cannot do this independently because you must express your feelings when feeling alone and isolated.
Seek Support Groups And Allow Yourself To Be Vulnerable
Suppose you feel alone while with friends or even in your relationship because the situation you are facing is making you feel that way. In that case, you already know that journaling can help, and seeking therapy is necessary too. However, one of the things that you will want to do is join support groups that have to do with the reason that you are feeling alone. For example, if caregiving makes you feel alone, join a support group online to express your feelings of loneliness and sadness.
You can vent about how you cannot stop comparing yourself to others, and not only will the members listen to you, validate you, and tell you that they have been there; but some will be able to provide you with some tips on how to move forward while acknowledging your feelings of loneliness. That validation you get will make a world of difference when it comes to loneliness as you will feel less alone, so you will be inclined to make positive changes to your life despite the feelings of isolation.
When Lonely, Create Daily Gratitude Lists
When you feel lonely and isolated, you want to take advantage of looking at your blessings and writing them down. Creating gratitude lists is essential for helping you keep a positive mind and a higher vibration even if you feel lonely. Of course, you do not want to throw toxic positivity at yourself by invalidating your feelings, but you can do that while focusing on the positive things in your life. Even if that means the only thing to feel grateful for one day is a sunny day, it counts. There are other things you can do when you are feeling lonely.
Spend Time In Nature
When you spend time in outdoors, you will feel refreshed and better. Of course, it will not end your lonely feelings, but you will feel much better. Mother Nature is healing, and even if you don’t have a park or wooded area nearby, sitting in the backyard, front porch, or balcony will help you in ways you would not expect. However, there is one more thing you can do when feeling this way.
Move Your Body
Exercise helps to rid any negativity from your body, and you can do that by walking or, even better, listening to a song you love and dancing. Sitting all day makes you feel worse and will reinforce the negativity you feel. Working out or dancing is one of the best forms of self-care.
You may not be able to avoid feeling lonely during certain times in life, but there are tips and tools to help you make the best of your situation that makes you feel that way. Keeping a higher vibration is essential to help you attract the things you want.
