You have learned about the Law of Attraction and manifestation, and you are excited because now you have a way to start attracting the things you want. So you do what you can to read up on it, and you work on developing a positive mindset, you recite affirmations, and you also do your visualizations. And while you are doing what you can to attract what you want, you see that there are no results. How could that be, considering you are following the instructions regarding manifestation? There is a simple yet so complex reason you are unsuccessful despite your efforts. That is known as the bystander effect, one of many psychological phenomena.
What Is The Bystander Effect?
The definition of a bystander is someone present in a scene but not the one directly involved. For example, think of a child being bullied at school, and there is a student there during the bullying, but that student is not involved. What does that student do? Does the student call for help or allow the bullying to keep happening? Many factors can play a role in whether or not the student will help.
If others are present and observing the bullying, it is less likely that the student will be the one to call for help. The same goes for someone you see who passes out or becomes ill. If you happen to be present during those situations, you may feel you have no choice but to step in, but if there are others in the scene, then you will be less likely to do anything and keep walking by. The one who is present at a scene and observes what is happening is a bystander. And the bystander effect is when someone is at a scene where someone needs help and fails to send them the help they need.
What Is The Reason Behind The Bystander Effect?
As you can see, the bystander effect is a diffusion of responsibility, as you are aware of the situation, but you do not do anything to act and help. The assumption regarding bystanders is that there is the belief that if someone needs to act to help, they would have done so already. Therefore, the bystander has that as their reason not to do anything to help the victim of a terrible situation.
If you happen to be alone as a bystander watching a victim suffer, you are more likely to take the responsibility to help. However, if other observers are around and they are not reacting to the victim’s suffering, then that signals that you don’t need to do anything. And the other thing is that you fear that if you act and do something to help in the presence of other bystanders, they will judge you on how to handle the situation.
Because the way you would help the victim in need may not be morally appropriate for the other observers, or you would help them in a way they would not expect and like. If you feel confused about what is happening, you will hold off on helping out if you get it wrong in front of others. What does this have to do with the Law of Attraction and manifestation? Let’s talk about that.
How The Bystander Effect Blocks the Manifestation
When the bystander effect impacts you, you are blocking your ability to manifest what you want, even though you are going through the motions of attempting to attract what you want. The leading cause of the bystander effect is blocking your manifestation abilities. You are stopping yourself from it subconsciously because you fear what other people will think if you manifest what you want.
Therefore, you will not grab opportunities to help you attract what you want and will also fear not speaking out because of worrying about being judged. Therefore, you Consequently will not put yourself forward at all. If people around you have inflexible thoughts about success, that will negatively influence you.
Another reason the bystander effect is hurting your manifestation abilities is that you may begin to think that others will do the work on your behalf to manifest what you want. Therefore you are not taking responsibility for it. And when you do not end up attracting what you want, you blame others for it, putting you into a victim mentality. Therefore, the bystander effect prevents you from taking action, which is essential for manifestation. So let’s talk about how to move beyond it so you can begin to remove that blockage.
How To Remove The Bystander Effect So You Can Attract What You Want
It is great to do the visualizations and recite affirmations. Still, you need to do the other work such as meditation, practice mindfulness, journaling, and having a firm understanding that for your manifestation abilities to work, you need to be the one to take appropriate action. You also have to remember that you are manifesting what you want for yourself, and the opinions of others are not relevant.
You already see you have excellent observation skills. Make them work for you by seeing the possibilities in front of you that can help you achieve and attract what you want. And meditation is essential to making the Law of Attraction work for you, as you will want to set aside 15 minutes daily to meditate.
If you are struggling with believing in yourself, which is holding you back from taking action, you need to talk to a therapist who can help you achieve your goals. Accept that to manifest what you want, you must do the work and grab opportunities and possibilities to help you attain what you want to attract to make the Law of Attraction work for you.
The bystander effect is hurting you, and you can go through the motions with it, but if your heart is not in it and you are not doing the core of the work, you will not be successful with manifestation.
